Artificial Intelligence (AI) - latest craze or disruptive technology?  I t seems everywhere in the media people are talking about AI and how it's going to take over everything. They say once we hear something around 6 times from difference sources we start to believe it's true.  What is AI? The dictionary defines AI as: " the theory and development of computer systems able to perform tasks normally requiring human intelligence, such as visual perception, speech recognition, decision-making, and translation between languages. " From this point of view we have already been using many AI systems for years and they are already part of our daily lives. Speech recognition tools such as Alexa  are finally starting to become useful in a limited set of circumstances and people have been successfully using Google Translate to obtain rough (read as literal) translations for a number of years. Autonomous vehicles in the press Automated vehicles or self driving cars are getting a lot of publicity in the press recently, a lot of it is very positive but also in the mix is a few more negative views. It's quite easy to dismiss these more negative comments are scaremongering, as after all they largely relate to isolated incidents which often turn out to be caused by human error rather than the vehicle itself. Some believe that the holy grail of driving is just around the corner, helping to vastly reduce road deaths, reduce commute times and free up humans to do something more interesting than spending their time driving. There are indeed some sceptics among us, and perhaps they are simply reacting to the fear of the unknown, or do they really have legitimate concerns? Levels of driving When you first learn to drive it's a struggle to learn how to control the vehicle, to turn, accelerate, brake, operate a clutch and change the gears. Once this becomes
